WATER WAGS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WELIGAMA

Sunday September 17, 2006 marked the launch for the very first time in Weligama Bay of the Dublin Bay Water Wag No 19 called 'Seal'.Originally she was part of a fleet of 20 which were raced regularly in Colombo harbour with the Royal Colombo Yacht Club. Due to security reasons the club was requested to vacate the harbour some years ago and the boats were shifted to Ceylon Motor Yacht Club at Bolgoda Lake where they are now stored and only sailed occasionally.

The Water Wags are teak clinker built gunter rigged traditional dinghies, and in fact are the oldest one design dinghy in the world. They are still raced regularly at Dublin Bay, Ireland and also in Royal Madras Yacht Club in Chennai, India. They are excellent sea-going dinghies and Weligama Bay provides perfect sailing conditions for this heavy boat.
